all sorts of problems…including link spam. in any event, trying to migrate to blogger. about to just bite the bullet and start over. hate to do that, but i might…
just upgraded wp to 2.6. why didn’t yahoo do this already?
i’m doing this to export my posts to move to blogger. hopefully, everything will go smoothly :)
we’re in the process of selling our house in berkeley…i have to say that it’s hard to write these words…we’ve lived there for 10 years (almost to the day), it’s the first place we lived together as a married couple, and both diego and hugo were born there (well, at the hospital of course!)…

the official website and pics are coming soon, but it’s open tomorrow…
thanks to ereader i finally have what i want…a way to read books on my iphone…online and off. i switched to mobipocket (an amazon co) a while ago, but when i got an iphone, i was left with web-based services only. and, while texttophone is great, it doesn’t work on the airplane…
ereader is fantastic. my only complaint is that digital books are so expensive. why? why should i pay the same price when there aren’t any printing or distribution costs…amazon figured this out with the kindle. but, i want one device to rule the world…i.,e my iphone. so, hopefully amazon and/or apple will do something…or, maybe even little ereader…:)
here’s a video of how to use v1 of ereader’s new app…
my iphone died this week (well, the main menu button did anyways). so, today i made a genius appt via the apple website for 6:40pm. i showed up just before then, was seen at 6:43 and walked out of the store with a (free) new iPhone at 6:50!
then, when i got home, i connected to my powerbook and hit “restore old iphone.” in less than 5 minutes i had everything back…all my contacts, favorites, stocks, weather, bookmarks, notes, alarms, world time settings, music, etc. etc. etc.
pretty impressive…
i like this. it’s easy to use (no registration), allows you to get results instantly on aol, has real political writers (blogs and pubs i read), and drives traffic to their publisher partners. this type of polling isn’t new, but i like the “guest” nature of it and the simple call to action get the publisher’s “take” on the question on their own site…
note: for some reason the widget is displaying on my blog. go to aol news to see it live, but here’s a screen grab:

before going to hawaii for our vacation (other posts about that coming soon), i decided to try the itunes movie rental service. obviously, the goal was to find an easy way to keep diego occupied on the flight…so, i rented the simpsons and we watched it on the flight…twice :)
not only was the quality good, but it didn’t kill the battery. my only complaint = only one day to watch the video once you start it.
now, if only the iphone had an ebook solution that worked in offline mode!
in any event, on the way home, hawaiian air had an even better vid solution…a dvd player loaded with a number of movies and tv shows, all for $15…
first off…i love friendfeed…it’s become my rss reader, content discovery engine / daily 5 minute break, and primary way to track friends :)
i’ve been meaning to post a list of things i’d like to see friendfeed do…well, fred beat me to it. i agree with him completely and had a number of his on my list…here are a few more that fred didn’t mention, most of which focus on data (think flickr…everyone wants stats!):
1) display all my items that have activity (not just what i’ve commented on) in reverse chron order and listed by most commented and liked
2) allow me to get a daily email update of the activity - even if i’ve logged in recently :)
3) items should be deduped and global stats for each item should be front and center…explore putting it in the UI next to each item (# times this item was shared, # comments, # likes, # clicks, etc.). if it’s too cluttered, at least make “stats” a tab…
4) let me see the most popular items (shares, comments, likes, clicks, movers and shakers (”interestingness”)) over different time periods across my items, my friends’ items, and all of ff…and, turn those into rss feeds :)
5) allow me to share/rebroadcast any item directly from within ff
6) search should be full-text - ff should index the landing pages of all shared links
7) please create a smaller logo :)
re fred’s list, i especially want the ability to display thumbnails of images from blog feeds ala flickr, explode blog posts, and post comments back to flickr ala twitter…
i’ve tried all sorts of things with feedburner and yahoo pipes to create a good feed of me, and i settled on using pipes to splice flickr into my wp source feed with feedburner on the front-end (this works better than the flickr splicer in feedburner as each photo can have flare). that seems to work for my readers (i.,e not too much content), but if you want my complete exhaust, use this feed as it’s a true feed of me…
